Treatment for Osteoarthritis
There are many different types of treatment for arthritis pain, non-surgical and surgical. Dr. Sanders can work with you to help determine your best treatment options. Hyaluronic acid therapy is one treatment that is often helpful for many arthritis sufferers.

Arthroscopy surgery allows a patient to be sent home from the hospital earlier and to recover faster than open surgery. Small incisions or minimally invasive surgery provide the surgeon access to the knee without displacing muscles and tissue. Video of the bones and cartilage of the knee are viewed during surgery by the surgeon.

Dr. Sanders also performs arthroscopic shoulder surgery to repair the bones, rotator cuff muscles, and joints of the shoulder. Minimally invasive shoulder surgery allows for even greater benefits regarding recovery and getting back into the game sooner. Resurfacing of the shoulder bones and cartilage using a camera and surgical tools is the standard method for injuries on athletes.

When the knee joint is beyond repair because of arthritis or severe injuries, Dr. Sanders performs total knee replacement. Advanced techniques and equipment are used in a procedure generally called 'knee arthroplasty'. This procedure includes either total or partial replacement of the bone. Unicompartmental or total knee replacement includes using cobalt-chrome, titanium metals, or wear-resistant plastic (polyethylene) to take the place the of the bone or cartilage in the joint. Flex bearing replacement joints allow for mobility in the knee allowing patients to return to play. Total joint replacement has proven successful for many patients and allowed them to get back to the activities they enjoy.
